Fire Breaks Out In Washington Heights Dry Cleaner, FDNY Says

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — A two-alarm fire broke out Friday morning in a Washington Heights dry cleaners on the ground floor of an apartment building, an FDNY spokesman said.

Firefighters responded to the six-story building on the corner of West 177th Street and Broadway shortly before 11 a.m. Friday, an FDNY spokesman said. The response was upgraded to a second alarm, meaning more than 100 fire and EMS personnel responded to the scene, the spokesman said.

Firefighters placed the blaze under control around 12 p.m., fire officials said.

The mixed-use building contains several businesses on its ground floor and apartments above. An FDNY spokesman said the fire appears to have started in a dry cleaner facing Broadway.

No injuries were reported, an FDNY spokesman said.
