Man Fatally Stabbed 47 Times In Anti-Hispanic Inwood Attack: DA
The man was "blatantly targeted because of his race" by his roommate in the deadly May 30 attack, said District Attorney Alvin Bragg.

INWOOD, NY — A man who stands accused of fatally stabbing his roommate 47 times in an anti-Hispanic attack in Inwood has been indicted, prosecutors said Monday.
Hosameldin Ismail, 34, faces two counts of second-degree murder as a hate crime in connection to the killing of 55-year-old Maximito Polanco-Parra, according to a release from Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's office.
Ismail had been renting a room in the same Arden Street apartment as Polanco-Parra when, on May 30, he came from behind Polanco-Parra for no apparent reason and stabbed him 47 times in the head, neck and chest, prosecutors.

Ismail tried to run away but was arrested outside of the Inwood building, between Nagle and Sherman avenues, prosecutors said. Officers found several kitchen knives on him, authorities said.
Polanco-Parra was pronounced dead at the scene.

“As alleged, Maximito Polanco-Parra’s was blatantly targeted because of his race in this jarring, violent attack,” said District Attorney Alvin Bragg, in a news release. “I join the family and friends of Mr. Polanco-Parra in mourning the loss of their loved one.”
