INWOOD, NY — A man was robbed at knifepoint inside the stairwell of an Inwood apartment building on Jan. 1, police said Thursday.

The New York Police Department sent out this information one day after it notified the public of a different Inwood staircase robbery that took place just one day before on Dec. 31 in the same Upper Manhattan neighborhood.

The robbery happened on New Years Day around 9:21 p.m. in the staircase of a building near Arden Street and Nagle Avenue, police said. The robber approached a 29-year-old man inside the staircase and demanded money, police said.

When the man originally only coughed up $8, the mugger ordered him to give more money as he flashed a knife, police said.

The 29-year-old forked over more cash and the robber fled the building, police said.

On Wednesday, the NYPD announced that a different man was dragged across the floor and robbed within the staircase of an Inwood building near West 212th Street and 10th Avenue on Dec. 31.

Police did not say they thought the two robberies were connected.

The two Inwood buildings are around a 20-minute walk from each other.

Police released a photo Thursday of the man they want to talk to in connection to the knifepoint robbery near the Arden Street and Nagle Avenue building on Jan. 1.
