Man Shot In Back And Killed Overnight In Washington Heights: NYPD

Police found a 26-year-old man lying on the street with gunshot wounds in front of 469 West 164th Street early Thursday morning.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — Derrick Johnson, 26, was shot in the back and killed early Thursday morning in Washington Heights, the New York Police Department said.

Officers found Johnson, a Bronx resident, lying on the street around 12:38 a.m. in front of 469 West 164th Street, with gunshot wounds to his back and ankle, police said.

He was unconscious and unresponsive.

The Washington Heights building sits on a residential block in between Amsterdam and Edgecombe.

Emergency services transported the 26-year-old to NYC Health & Hospitals/Harlem, where he was pronounced dead a short time later, police said.

There are no arrests and the investigation remains ongoing.
