Man Shot Dead In Washington Heights, Police Say

The man was sitting in a vehicle when he was shot multiple times, an NYPD spokesman said.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — A man was shot and killed Wednesday while sitting in a vehicle on a Washington Heights street, an NYPD spokesman said.

A gunman approached the vehicle on West 185th Street near St. Nicholas Avenue around 1:50 p.m. and fired multiple shots into the car, police said. Franklin Bello, 48, suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the torso and was declared dead after being rushed to Columbia Presbyterian hospital, police said.

The shooter was observed fleeing the scene and escaping into a building a few blocks away, police said.

No suspect is in custody and the investigation into the shooting remains ongoing, an NYPD spokesman said.
