Manny De Los Santos Wins Upper Manhattan Assembly Seat
Manny De Los Santos will replace Carmen De La Rosa in the Assembly after winning Tuesday night's election with 61 percent of the vote.
UPPER MANHATTAN, NY — Manny De Los Santos is the newest Upper Manhattan elected official after winning the special election of the 72nd Assembly District Tuesday night to replace Carmen De La Rosa.
The uptown seat was left empty after De La Rosa was elected to City Council to replace Ydanis Rodriguez in November.
Here are the results from Tuesday, according to the NYC Board of Elections:

- Manny De Los Santos, Democrat: 61 percent (1,437 votes)
- Nayma Silver-Matos, Uptown Rises: 31 percent (735 votes)
- Edwin De La Cruz, Republican: 7 percent (167 votes)
In total 2,339 uptown residents voted for registered candidates in the special election, with eight people choosing to write in other candidates.
To put that voter turnout in perspective, there are around 134,674 that live in the 72nd Assembly District, according to the 2020 census.

The Assembly district stretches from around West 168th Street, east of Broadway, up through almost the entirety of Inwood.
De Los Santos had not posted any sort of victory message to his social media sites as of Wednesday morning.
Going into election night, De Los Santos was endorsed by De La Rosa, Shaun Abreu, Latoya Joyner, Al Taylor, and Adriano Espaillat.
