New Popeyes Opening On 181st Street In Washington Heights
A full-blown chicken fight is shaking up on 181st Street, as a new Popeyes, KFC, and Chick-fil-A are all about to open in the area.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — After a major delay caused by the pandemic, a new Popeyes location is on its way to 1406 St. Nicholas Avenue, between West 180th and 181st Streets.
Signage for the fast-food chicken spot recently went up at the Upper Manhattan address.

The location looks close to opening as the counter and seats have already been installed, but Popeyes did not respond to Patch's request for comment on the exact opening date.

A "Coming Soon" sign with the Louisiana chicken chain's logo was added above the storefront in January 2020, however, the opening ended up being delayed due to the pandemic.
The new Popeyes will be its fourth location in Upper Manhattan:

The 181st Street area of Washington Heights is getting a major influx of fast-food chicken options.
Along with the incoming Popeyes, a Chick-fil-A is "opening soon" at 601 West 181st Street (off the corner of St. Nicholas) and a KFC is opening at 4250 Broadway (West 180th Street).

In response to the news that another chicken spot was opening near 181st Street, one Upper Manhattan resident wrote on Facebook: "Fried chicken wars on 181st. All I want is a Chopt."
While KFC and Chick-fil-A have less of a track record in Upper Manhattan, Popeyes locations have shown to survive in Washington Heights and Inwood.
