Permits Filed For New 5-Story Building In Washington Heights

A mixed-use building is set for the intersection of West 173rd St. and St. Nicholas Avenue, permits recently filed with the city show.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — Permits were recently filed with the city for a new five-story building in Washington Heights.

The building at 1259 St. Nicholas Ave., at the corner of West 173rd St. and St. Nicholas Avenue, will be 69-feet tall, have 1,576 square feet for commercial space, and 388 square feet for community facility space, according to the permits.

New York Yimby reports that the building will have 14 apartments.

The current address is a one-story building that is much smaller than the rest of the block.

It also has two storefronts, the La Fe Unisex Beauty Salon, and a clothing and accessories store.

There is no demolition permit currently on record and it is unclear what the timeline for construction is and what will happen to the businesses.

A & T Engineering is the engineer listed in the permits.

It is the first permit in Washington Heights for a new building since an eight-story mixed-use property was filed for a vacant lot at 563 West 170th Street, between St. Nicholas Avenue and Audubon Avenue, at the end of January.
