$200-Sushi Restaurant Akashi Ready to Open in West Village
If you live in the West Village and you've been eager to try some really fancy sushi, you now have a chance.
WEST VILLAGE, NY — Sushi lovers have a new place to dine in the West Village — but they better be ready to spend a nice chunk of change to do so.
Akashi will be opening on Oct. 5, according to Grub Street, and offering a 20-course tasting menu for over $200. The restaurant will squeeze into the small space at 14 Christopher St., where WhyNot Jazz Room used to be located. Head chef Yoichi Akashi will be heading up the new venture. Akashi has his bonafides though. According to Grub Street, the chef has worked at pricey Midtown East sushi place Sushi Yasuda and fellow West Village restaurant Sushi Nakazawa, at 23 Commerce St.
He also has a license to prepare fugu (or blowfish) if you're in the mood to risk your life over some sashimi.

Akashi's website is still in the works, but you can make reservations already. Considering its pedigree, you'll probably have to get on top of that soon.
