90-Year-Old Woman Knocked to the Ground in Attempted Robbery

A woman tried, and failed, to rob a very tough woman in Greenwich Village on Tuesday.

GREENWICH VILLAGE, NY — A very tough 90-year-old woman fended off a robbery attempt near Greenwich Village on Tuesday.

According to police, a younger woman ran up to the elderly victim and tried to grab a duffel bag from the 90-year-old's utility cart. The elderly woman grabbed the bag and held on to prevent the other woman from stealing it. Then, police say, the suspect shoved the 90-year-old woman to the ground and continued to try to wrestle the duffel bag from her. But yet again, the elderly woman held on and the suspect fled.

The victim was treated for cuts to her arm and finger at Mount Sinai Beth Israel Hospital, police said.

The suspect is described as having a tattoo on her right arm and wearing a black tank top, red pants, black shoes and a black purse.
