Dead Body Found On Washington Square Park Bench, Police Said

WEST VILLAGE, NY — A dead woman was found sitting on a bench in Washington Square Park Wednesday night, authorities said.

Police responded to a 911 call at 8:39 p.m. reporting an unconscious woman inside of the green space. Emergency responders discovered the woman unresponsive, with no obvious injuries, sitting on a bench in the park, police said.

She was taken to Lenox Health Plex Hospital where she was pronounced dead, authorities said. The city's Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death and the investigation is ongoing.
