Dead Man Found Slumped On Washington Square Park Bench: NYPD

This is the second time in six months that a dead body was found on bench in the West Village park.

WEST VILLAGE, NY — A man was found dead on a park bench in Washington Square Park early Sunday morning, police said.

The 55-year-old man's body was discovered slumped over on a bench by a city Parks Department worker just after 6 a.m., cops said.

The man was dressed in a hospital gown with a medical bracelet from Saint John's Episcopal Hospital, authorities said.

It appears the man may have died from a drug overdoes, according to police. The city's Medical Examiner will determine the exact cause of death. The victim's name was not immediately released.

Sunday's discovery marks the second time in six months a dead body has been found in the park. In August, a woman's dead body was discovered sitting on a bench in the park. Police said the two incidents appear to be unrelated.
