Eateries In This West Village ZIP Got $75M From Federal Stimulus

More than 115 West Village eateries got Restaurant Revitalization grants from the American Rescue Act. Find out which below.

WEST VILLAGE, NY — More than 115 restaurants, caterers and other food spots within the West Village's central 10014 ZIP code received grants from the federal government as part of the stimulus package passed in January, according to newly released data.

Ranging from $6,700 to $4.5 million, the grants came from the Restaurant Revitalization Fund, a key component of the American Rescue Act. The recipients were revealed Friday by the Small Business Administration in response to a Freedom of Information Act request.

The West Village's 10014 ZIP code did not have a restaurant receive the maximum $10 million grant.

All told, 117 businesses within the 10014 ZIP code got money, amounting to more than $75 million combined. To put that in perspective, that's $3 million more than businesses within the entirety of the Upper West Side's three ZIP codes got from the federal government.

The government's $28.6 billion fund closed at the end of June after granting less than a third of the more than 370,000 requests made nationwide.

In the West Village, the average grant was $647,925. The top $4.5 million grant winner is the ZIP code was the popular Brass Monkey bar at 55 Little West 12th Street.

The West Village eateries are among more than 27,000 in New York state that got Restaurant Revitalization grants, totaling more than $9.6 billion.

The fund was initially supposed to prioritize restaurants owned by women, veterans and members of other marginalized groups, but that aspect was halted after white business owners sued, alleging that the government was discriminating against them.
