85-Year-Old Hit And Killed By Tow Truck Near Union Square: NYPD
An older woman was hit and killed by a truck as she was walking near Broadway and East 17th Street on Wednesday afternoon, police said.
UNION SQUARE, NY — An 85-year-old was hit and killed by a tow truck Wednesday afternoon as she walked on East 17th Street and Broadway, just above Union Square according to police.
The deadly impact happened around 1:55 p.m., a police spokesperson said.
"An elderly female was struck by a tow truck and was dead on arrival," the NYPD spokesperson told Patch.

The Lower Manhattan street where the impact happened has a large bike lane and adjacent space for pedestrians.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a 2016 Peterbilt Tow Truck was driving westbound on 17th Street, when it struck the woman while she was walking across the intersection of 17th Street, according to police.

The tow truck remained on scene, and the NYPD Highway CIS is investigating.
