Famed Greenwich Village Apothecary Names Favorite Local Spots

GREENWICH VILLAGE, NY — C.O. Bigelow has operated as a pharmacy in Greenwich Village for nearly 200 years, serving customers such as Mark Twain, Eleanor Roosevelt, and possibly even Thomas Edison.

The nation's longest-running apothecary — located at 414 6th Avenue — recently released a video of its favorite places in Greenwich Village.

Since C.O. Bigelow has done business in the neighborhood since 1838, it seems that the store has a justified claim in picking the very best spots in Greenwich Village to visit.

Here's what it said:

• The Stonewall Inn: 53 Christopher Street — A gay bar and National Historic Landmark where a series of demonstrations took place in 1969 leading to the modern gay liberation movement.
• Monica's Apartment in "Friends": 90 Bedford Street — While most of the famous sitcom was shot in California, a large chunk of the series was set in Greenwich Village.
• Marie's Crisis Cafe: 59 Grove Street — The bar opened all the way back in the 1850s and now specializes as the best spot in the city to grab a drink and sing show tunes with a crowd of people.
• The Mosaic: Behind 88 Perry Street — The striking blue and white painted tile arch was built between 1866 and 1868 on the side of an apartment house at 88 Perry Street. It serves as a reminder of the wave of Spanish immigrants that descended upon Greenwich Village around the time.
• Cafe Wha?: 115 MacDougal Street — Since the 1950s, the venue has welcomed some of the world's most famous musicians. In particular, it is known for giving up-and-coming musicians their first taste of a real stage in New York City.

In a little self-promotion, C.O. Bigelow's TikTok also named itself as one of the best places to visit in Greenwich Village.
