UNION SQUARE, NY — A Manhattan man who was just trying to enjoy a hot chicken sandwich from Popeye's says he found a half-smoked joint inside the fast food delicacy.

Jeremy Merdinger quipped to the fried chicken empire, "Do all your chicken sandwiches come with with (sic) a joint in them?"

"Found this in my sandwich the other day in NYC," he wrote in a Monday afternoon tweet with a photo of a chicken sandwich and what appears to be a roach.

"Just wanted to make sure that this doesn't happen to anyone else," he said.

Merdinger told the New York Post he went to the West 14th Street location near Union Square Nov. 4 for the chicken sandwiches, which have become famous nationwide amid a sandwich craze that has sometimes resulted in violence.

When he was chowing down on his second sandwich, a joint fell onto his lap, according to the Post.

"It was 100 percent marijuana," the account manager at an influencer marketing firm HYPR told the newspaper. "It's in a plastic bag at home."

The 23-year-old Alphabet City man simply wants the chicken empire to "own up to it."

"They can at least admit they made a mistake," he told the Post. "I think it's ridiculous and not professional."

Popeye's didn't immediately respond to Patch's request for comment, but told the Post it is investigating Merdinger's claim.

"We have high standards for the quality of our ingredients and the preparation of our food. We take all feedback about our meals seriously and quickly take action to make sure all of our guests have a good experience," a company spokesperson told the Post.
