"They have become family in a way," a longtime patron of the diner said of the restaurant's staff.

WEST VILLAGE, NY — The longtime Hudson Diner closed its doors this week, after 23 years in the West Village.
The beloved local spot, located at 468 Hudson St., was closed on Thursday, with newspapers covering the windows.
A sign posted in the diner's window said that the diner was relocating to the Moonstruck Diner at 250 E. 58th St.

"We thank our patrons and the community for the 23 years of business in this location," the sign read. "We have enjoyed being here and will miss everyone very much."
It's unclear whether the owners of the Hudson Diner bought Moonstruck Diner and took over its space or opened a brand new location in Midtown East.

A longtime patron of the diner, Benj Whitehouse, also posted a letter in the diner's window, thanking the restaurant's management and employees for being a regular part of his mornings for more than ten years.
"Okay, so why HUDSON DINER you ask?" Whitehouse wrote in the letter. "My answer would have to be the excellent staff. Every morning they were there with a greeting, a friendly smile, and they would put up with patrons eccentricities without complaint.
"They have become family in a way," Whitehouse said in the letter. "I think if you spoke with any of our morning regulars, you would hear the same."
Patch was unable to contact anyone at the Moonstruck Diner or the Hudson Diner for more information.
