Lower Manhattan Pols Endorse Deborah Glick In West Village Race

Elected officials Brad Hoylman, Harvey Epstein and Dick Gottfried announced their endorsements Tuesday of Deborah Glick for reelection.

WEST VILLAGE, NY — Deborah Glick has represented Manhattan's 66th Assembly for 30 years, and three downtown elected officials announced their endorsement Tuesday for her reelection to her longtime post.

State Senator Brad Hoylman, longtime and retiring Assembly Member Dick Gottfried and Assembly Member Harvey Epstein announced their endorsement of Glick in a joint release on Tuesday.

"I am honored to receive the endorsement of my colleagues Brad, Dick, and Harvey," Glick said in a news release. "They represent the best of Albany and, whether for 50 years or four years, have each been incredibly effective leaders of progressive causes in New York."

Most recently, Glick has supported the protection of loft tenants in Lower Manhattan, drafted legislation to support future teachers, and come out in opposition against the permanent open restaurant program not having to go through local community boards for approval.

On a bigger scale, Glick has been a strong advocate for civil rights, reproductive freedom, animal and environmental preservation, the arts, and tenants' rights.

She was the first openly LGBTQ member of the state legislature.

Glick has spoken out — some say worryingly— against overpopulation and the recently passed rezoning of Soho, which she criticized for not guaranteeing low-income housing.

The trio of endorsements for Glick, comes around a month after The Jim Owles Liberal Democratic Club chose to endorse newcomer candidate Ryder Kessler for the 66th Assembly seat.

Kessler's career includes time in the private sector — he founded a tipping start-up called DipJar — and worked as a campaign operative within New York's Democratic party, helping to launch the PAC Flippable, according to his bio.

Glick has also been endorsed by the Village Independent Democrats (VID), Downtown Independent Democrats (DID), and the Village Reform Democratic Club.

The district covers the West Village, Greenwich Village, SoHo, NoHo, and Tribeca.
