Man Arrested After Stabbing Outside NYU Greenwich Village Gym

A 20-year-old man was stabbed twice in the back on Thursday at 1 p.m., police said. On Saturday, officers cuffed a suspect.

GREENWICH VILLAGE, NY — A man was arrested on Saturday following a stabbing two days earlier outside of a NYU gym, police said.

Jamie Gutierrez, 51, was arrested nearby and charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon, according to officials.

On Thursday, a 20-year-old was stabbed twice in the back outside of NYU's three-story athletics facility at 404 Lafayette St., known as 404 Fitness, police said.

The stabber fled south on Lafayette Street on foot while the victim managed to bring himself to the hospital, according to officials.

Police could not say if Gutierrez had any prior arrests. According to officials, he had no known address.
