Union Square Attack Victim Needed 40 Stitches, Police Say

Police are still searching for the attacker, who ran from the area after stabbing a man, police said.

Update, February 6: Police released a photo of the suspected knifeman on Tuesday.

Authorities said that Monday's attack left the victim with a wound that required 40 stitches.

UNION SQUARE, NY — A man was stabbed near Union Square Park on Monday morning, police said.

The man was injured near 26 E. 17th St., the address for a Liquiteria smoothie shop, according to the NYPD.

A police spokeswoman did not have details about the attack, but said the man was stabbed at about 11:40 a.m. before his attacker ran from the area towards Broadway.

Police are still searching for the attacker who was wearing a black coat when he ran away.
