NYC Bar Owner Received Death Threats After 'MAGA' Lawsuit: Report

The owner of a West Village bar says he has received death threats after a dispute with a Trump-supporting patron.

WEST VILLAGE, NY — The owner of a West Village bar who was sued over a dispute with a Trump-supporting patron says he's received death threats since a judge ruled in favor of the bar, according to a new report.

Trump-supporter Greg Piatek sued The Happiest Hour last year, accusing the watering hole of refusing to serve him and asking him to leave because he was wearing a "Make America Great Again" hat, the signature cap of President Donald Trump's campaign.

The bar's owner Jon Neidich told the New York Post that he's received multiple death threats after a judge dismissed the lawsuit last week.

"We’ve been trolled on social media pretty intensely," Neidich said. He told the Post he was "surprised by the amount of hate that seems to be harbored" against him.

The Happiest Hour, located at 121 W. 10th St., said Piatek was asked to leave because he was being belligerent and catcalling a female bartender. The bar's attorneys also filed a copy of Piatek's receipt in court documents, showing that he paid for more than a dozen drinks and left a 20 percent tip on the bar tab.

"He paid for all those drinks using his credit card, and that he was sufficiently pleased with his service at the bar that he added a 20% gratuity to the bill," attorneys representing the bar and Neidich said in court documents.

Piatek had argued that he was discriminated against when he was asked to leave the bar in January 2017 because he was wearing the hat as part of a "spiritual tribute." A Manhattan Supreme Court judged sided with the bar in April and ruled to dismiss Piatek's lawsuit.
