Trump Win Inspires Massive 'Love Rally' in Washington Square Park
While most in the crowd were vehemently anti-Trump, the message was more pro-love and pro-diversity.
UPDATE, Nov. 11, 6 p.m.: The love rally at Washington Square Park has transformed into another anti-Trump protest, and is moving uptown toward Trump Tower. Live updates here.
WEST VILLAGE, NY — The premise of a "Love Rally" drew hundreds of New Yorkers to Washington Square Park in front of the arch to "stand together" and "let Muslims, women, those who have disabilities, latinos/latinas/latinx people, and everyone else Donald Trump has put down to get this far know that this country doesn't hate them."
People stood in the park and chanted, "No police brutality!" "Trans lives matter," and "Muslim rights are human rights," among other chants.

"My mom initially didn't want me to come... she felt that it was unsafe just with the stigma of violence protests going on," said Kayla from Long Island in The Movement video. "I don't think she really understood that this is about love."
"The cops are lining up in large numbers, it seems like more than usual," wrote a Facebook commenter who said she works next to the park. "I know this is supposed to be a Love Rally but be aware they are probably looking for any reason to cause trouble. Look out for each other! Solidarity!"

"Please remember that this event will not be explicitly anti-Trump, but will rather serve to tell those who he has targeted in his speech that they are welcome in this country," the event said. "As such, we're rallying in support of those demographics, not to protest a Trump presidency."
