Weird Wave Sculptures Have Arrived In NYC

You can buy a wave designed by Rita Ora or Cara Delevigne to help fund ocean conservation.

WEST VILLAGE, NY — Wave sculptures designed by celebs and artists like Rita Ora, Cara Delevigne, and Keith Richards will pop up around NYC this month before being auctioned off for charity.

The sculptures are part of a promotion by the skincare company La Mer. The high-end line is placing 52 different wave sculptures throughout New York City, all of them similar in size and shape and designed by different artists and celebrities.

You can find wave sculptures in all five boroughs, and an interactive map of the "wave walk" will show exactly where each one is located. The waves will be on display throughout mid-June, while bidders online can claim them to raise money for Project 0, the ocean-focused nonprofit that La Mer has partnered with for the initiative.

The proceeds from the auction will go to three different initiatives identified by Project 0: restoring mangrove forests on the Island of Grenada, funding research in the East China Sea and creating marine-protected areas in the Azores.
