West Village Burrito Spot Shuts Down After 34 Years
Benny's Burritos served its last customer on Feb. 26. It had been in the West Village since opening in 1988.

WEST VILLAGE, NY — A popular burrito restaurant in the West Village has closed down after 34 years in the neighborhood.
Benny's Burritos, located at 113 Greenwich Avenue, announced its final day serving customers was on Feb. 26.
"We're honored to have served Manhattan's West Village since 1988 and we thank you for your loyal support," Benny's Burrito's owners Ken and Don wrote on its Instagram. "We want to thank all of our current and past employees, we certainly could not have made it without you. We hope you have as many fond memories of Benny's as we do."

Benny's Burritos was under the same ownership group as the popular Mexican restaurant Blockheads.
It was best known for its San Francisco Mission-style burritos, according to Eater NY.

The business did not provide a reason for why it was shutting down.
The commentators on Instagram were quick to share their sorrow on the loss of the West Village establishment.
"Noooo, so many great memories here," one person wrote. "Ruby you were the best, I hope this reaches you, so sad."
Ruby is the name of a popular waitress at the restaurant who was mentioned multiple times in farewell messages on the restaurant's closing announcement.
"Awww this makes me so sad, I have spent so many times here with so many special people in my life," another person wrote.
A different patron summed up their thoughts about Benny's Burritos simply, "Best place in NYC."
