Women-Owned Brewery Coming To West Village: Report
Talea's new West Village taproom is opening on Friday.

WEST VILLAGE, NY — A women-owned Williamsburg brewery is opening a new taproom in the West Village.
Located on historic Christopher Street, Talea West Village worked with an all-female team to design and construct a bar that they describe as a modern-day saloon inspired by women's spaces in speakeasies and saloons of yesteryear, says Time Out New York.
"As two women leading a company in a male-dominated field, we make a pointed effort to highlight other female voices within our community in New York, the beer industry and beyond," co-founder LeAnn Darland said in a press release. "We want to ensure our mission of inclusivity and challenging perceptions translates to the consumer side, creating space and support for everyone to feel welcome."

Founded in 2018, Talea was started by Darland — and co-founder Tara Hankinson — to serve brews that could be an alternative to what they describe as the standard male-oriented offerings in craft brewing of high-alcohol IPAs and lagers.
“We realized that we had a common vision of building a beer brand that expanded craft beer beyond the mostly male consumer base,” Hankinson told PIX11 in 2021.

Their brews include lots of flavors — fruits and sours — and to celebrate their opening, they teamed with other local favorites to make a special West Village beer flight, writes Time Out.
With cocktail bar Dante, they made a fruity sour called Dante's Fluffy. A savory brew called Angie Lasagna Lager. Pumpkin Pudding inspired by Magnolia Bakery. And the Village Hazy IPA dedicated to The Center.
Talea also plans to open a new taproom near Bryant Park this winter.
