2 Nabbed For Driving While Ability Impaired By Drugs In Hamptons: PD

The incidents both took place Saturday, police say.

SOUTHAMPTON TOWN, NY — Two drivers were arrested in separate incidents this weekend after they were found to be driving while ability impaired by drugs, police said.

First, according to Southampton Town police, on Saturday at about 11:42 a.m. officers responded to a report of a one-car crash at the end of Sanderling Lane in East Quogue. Upon police arrival, it was learned that the driver had lost control of her vehicle, crashing into shrubbery, police said.

After a subsequent investigation, the driver, Josephine Velleca, 66, of East Moriches, was found to be impaired by drugs, police said. Velleca was arrested and taken to an area hospital, and then transported to police headquarters for processing, police said. She was charged with misdemeanor DWAI by drugs, police said.

Next, at about 4:07 p.m. Saturday, police said they responded to a report of a one-car crash on North Road near Oakhurst Road in Hampton Bays. The driver had lost control of his vehicle, striking a utility pole and some shrubbery, police said. After a subsequent investigation, the driver Carl Ligon, 66, of Riverhead was found to be impaired by drugs, police said. Ligon was arrested and taken to an area hospital for treatment, police said.

He e was charged with misdemeanor DWAI by drugs, police said.
