Don't Miss It: Civic To Form Exploratory Committee for Proposed Village

Committees will be formed at 7 p.m. at the Hampton Bays Senior Center.

The Hampton Bays Civic Association is taking the next step in delving into an idea to incorporate the hamlet of Hampton Bays as a village.

At 7 p.m. at the Southampton Senior Center in Hampton Bays, the civic association will hold a meeting to form an exploratory committee and sub committees with appointed committee chairs.

The civic is hoping that community members will step up to sit on the committees and participate in the effort.

In a statement sent to the media last week, the civic wrote, "While not a call to arms, it would be excellent if your voice were heard at this meeting. Add your thoughts to those of your neighbors, a practical demonstration of your interest in taking our community and your taxes on a more efficient, resident idealized, road to town management. Then, let us discover together if that road runs through incorporation on its way to satisfaction."

This will be the third meeting the civic has held on the idea to incorporate, with the civic broaching the idea at a meeting in January.

At that meeting, the civic welcomed Paul Breschard, the first mayor of Mastic Beach. Breschard laid out Mastic Beach's experience in separating from the Town of Brookhaven.
