HAMPTON BAYS, NY — A hazmat team was called to a home in Hampton Bays Thursday, officials said.

According to John Rankin, chief fire marshal for Southampton Town, a call came in to the Hampton Bay Fire Department at 2:33 p.m., regarding a leaking propane tank on Old Squiretown Road.

Fire officials arrived and found that the tank was leaking due to holes; the Southampton Town hazmat team responded and utilized a flare tool in an attempt to burn off what was left in the tank, Rankin said.
