LONG ISLAND, NY — A blast of wintry weather is headed for Long Island Thursday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

Bryan Ramsey, meteorologist for the NWS office in Upton, said Long Island is expected to see snow, beginning at about 5 a.m. Thursday morning. Snow will continue for three to four hours before transitioning to rain, with some sleet possibly mixed in, he said.

Next, from 9 a.m. until noon, Long Island will see rain, with the area beginning to dry out by evening. Ice that may form during the morning hours and snow event is slated to dissipate throughout the day as the temperatures rise to the upper 30s, Ramsey said.

A total of about an inch of snow is expected across Long Island, but by evening, the precipitation should have cleared, he said.
