Police: Hampton Bays Home Burglarized In Broad Daylight

Also, a car is stolen out of a driveway in Hampton Bays.

The following incidents were reported by the Town of Southampton Police Department for the week of Dec. 16.

Hampton Bays

  • Someone broke into a residence on North Road on Dec. 14 and made off with more than $1,300 in cash and valuables. According to police the victim called 911 after he returned home at around 6:40 p.m. and discovered his front door was closed but unlocked. The victim said he immediately knew something was up because he always locks his doors before leaving. When he entered, he discovered that $400 in cash, a 32-inch flatscreen TV, a carton of cigarettes, a Hewlett Packard laptop and Motorola flip-phone had been stolen. Detectives are investigating the incident.
  • A 1997 Honda Accord was stolen from the driveway of a property on South Valley Road on Dec. 13. According to police, the victim called 911 to report that the car went missing sometime between 6 a.m. and 2 p.m.
  • Someone kicked in the side door of a commercial office space on West Montauk Highway on Dec. 10. According to police, the manager of the office called 911 to report the break-in, which he believes occurred around 3 a.m. It was unclear if anything was stolen from the office, or if the suspect even entered after damaging the door.

Flanders

  • A man who was in a car accident in Flanders on Dec. 12 said the other vehicle in the crash took off without stopping. According to police, the accident took place around 5:30 p.m. while the victim was driving his 2003 Toyota west on County Road 24 with two other occupants in the vehicle with him. The victim said the driver of the other vehicle attempted a left turn off of Evergreen Road when the two collided. Neither the victim nor the occupants were injured, but the victim’s car sustained damage to the front fenders. According to police the victim was unable to get a license plate number on the second vehicle. The investigation is ongoing.
  • Someone stole a speaker box out of a vehicle parked in a driveway on Riverside Avenue on Dec. 11. According to police the victim called 911 to report that drivers side window of his 1995 Nissan Pathfinder had been smashed sometime between the hours of noon and 3 p.m. and that one of his two speakers had been stolen out of the vehicle. The value of the stolen speaker box is unknown.

Riverside

  • An employee at Best Repairs Auto on Riverleigh Avenue called 911 to report a harassment on Dec. 11. According to police, a customer got into a dispute at the garage at around 10:30 a.m. because his vehicle was not passing inspection. The customer demanded an inspection sticker be placed on the windshield despite its failing or he was “going home to get a gun.” The employee called police after the irate customer left. The victim wanted the incident documented without any further action at this time. The customer did not return to the garage.
