WESTHAMPTON BEACH, NY — A beloved head custodian at Westhampton Beach Elementary School has been honored for his dedication.

The Westhampton Beach School District Board of Education recently awarded their inaugural Great Hurricane Award to Jake Sweet.

Sweet was honored for his tireless hard work. "Jake takes pride in the elementary school, and we are incredibly proud of him and his work," said Dr. Carolyn Probst, superintendent of schools.

The Great Hurricane Award aims to honor staff throughout the year who make a difference every day within the school district, school officials said. "A hurricane is a storm of indomitable force, but more than that, here in Westhampton Beach it stands for honor, hard work, dedication, loyalty and tradition," said Dr. Probst.
