Westhampton Beach High School Student Wows With Musical Prowess

WESTHAMPTON BEACH, NY — A Westhampton Beach High School pianist has received recognition for his musical prowess.

Westhampton Beach High School senior Topher Ramos has "combined academic excellence with remarkable musical ability" to earn recognition as a rising pianist showcased in Manhattan School of Music’s Precollege performances, the district said.

Most recently, Ramos performed at the conservatory’s gala before an audience of accomplished musicians and was provided an opportunity to speak about his experiences with the Precollege program.

The program has offered him numerous opportunities, he said. Last year, he received the prestigious distinction among his peers to perform with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. He studies privately at the conservatory under Carmel Lowenthal and has taken classes and lessons every Saturday since the seventh grade, he said.

Ramos, who has been playing the piano since the age of 3, also shares his musical talent by accompanying his school’s chorus on the piano and singing as a member of the group, district officials said.

When not playing the piano or singing, Ramos serves as an editor of his school’s publication, Seascapes. He is also a member of the National Honor Society and an AP Scholar. Outside of school, he volunteers with the Westhampton Ambulance Junior Company, the district said.

He plans to continue his musical journey in college this fall and study the business side of the music industry, he said.
