About: Formed some seven years ago, Lights On Literature is an on-going discussion group that brings together folks to chat about a given piece of literature. The meetings are held monthly in the winter, spring and fall.
Andrew Hamm, director of the library, said Lights On Literature is a way for West Islip residents to not just enjoy reading a novel or non-fiction, but also to meet up with others and offer their thoughts and perhaps personal experiences as they relate to the selected book. January’s selection is “Where Men Win Glory” by Jon Krakauer, which is an account of the life and death of former pro football player Pat Tillman in Afghanistan.

“We don’t try to run this as a scholarly kind of thing,” he said. “It’s designed to be a relaxing evening where we get together and have a friendly, engaging discussion about a book.”
Hamm, who is leading the January meeting, added that librarians, library board members and local residents have led the group over the years.
