Colorful Display Highlights Summer Reading
Project driven by the late custodian Ray Udris stands tall outside the library.
Drive past the and the colorful display touting the Summer Reading Program is sure to catch your eye.
According to Jennifer Fowler, Young Adult librarian, the displays were the brainchild of her and Ray Udris, a part-time custodian at the public library. Udris agreed to create three large plywood cutouts that could be placed on the library’s front lawn with the goal of promoting the Summer Reading Club, she said.
Sadly, Udris passed away this past spring, but left detailed instructions with his family on how to complete the cutouts.

To complete the project, the library recruited Tori DeRosa, a page in the Children’s Room and an aspiring artist, to add color to the displays.
“Tori and I were determined to see the job through to the end, not only for the library but as a way to honor Ray,” Fowler said. “Tori outdid herself painting the cut-outs brilliantly.”
