Islip Renews Category 1 Storm Surge Zone Evacuation Order
Directive from Supervisor Tom Croci runs through midnight Nov. 12.

Islip Town has renewed its evacuation order for Category 1 Storm Surge Zone and the mainland of Fire Island as a nor’easter hits Long Island.
The updated order signed by Supervisor Tom Croci covers a time period from Wednesday through midnight Nov. 12.
While the latest storm is forecast to have a tidal surge of between two feet and four feet, it will hit the area at astronomical low tide, Town officials said.

In preparing for this latest storm, Town officials have moved water pumper trucks into several communities including West Islip and Oakdale that were heavily flooded during Hurricane Sandy.
Also, Town crews have spent the past two days using the vactor truck to clean storm drains in low lying areas. Generators have also been positioned in these areas to pump water from streets, should that become necessary.
