Lions Roar to Great Finish at Division Championship Meet

Boys track shatters school record as they head to state qualifier.

Once again shattering their own school record, the 4 X 400 relay of Sean Sepe, Chris Nohilly, Dom Morgan and Colin O’Connor left their opponents in the dust as they sped to an exciting 3:20.36 first place finish – a full 5 seconds ahead of the next team. This was the final event of the Championship meet and secured the Lion’s place in the top 5 of 16 large schools in Division One.

Morgan also scored in the long jump, the 110 hurdles and the 400 hurdles and O’Connor took second in the 400 hurdles. Fred Matthews scored in the discus, Scott Nelson scored in the steeplechase and the 4 X 800 relay posted a season’s best time of 8:20.30 to also break into the top 6 teams to score in that event. Vin Melia started off with a blistering 2:00.52 leg, followed by Mike Nowotarski , Joe Pinto and Dan Morley as the anchor tasked with passing guys and timing his kick to the finish.

The Lions head to the state qualifying meet next weekend where the 4 X 400 relay aims to add the outdoor Long Island Champions title to their indoor crown and earn a trip to Syracuse. Go Lions!
