
It’s a busy week in West Islip highlighted by holiday-themed activites at local schools and at the public library. Here are some of the highlights of happenings around the community.
Monday, Dec. 5
Good Samaritan Hospital is hosting a free Glaucoma screening from 2-4 p.m. in the main lobby. Â It's just one of the free services Good Sam is supplying for the month of December. Â

Tuesday, Dec. 6
Phyllis Chan-Carr, of Sagtikos Manor, will present a hands-on workshop on how to make a wonderful holiday decoration called a “Kissing Ball’ using boxwood as the greenery material. Each participant must bring a small pair of lightweight garden shears or heavy scissors and a wire hanger.

Wednesday, Dec. 7
Helping Hands of West Islip, Inc. is holding their annual holiday clothing/toy drive at American Legion Post 1738.  All materials must be delivered by 9:30 a.m.  We'll have more details in a separate post early this week.Â
Thursday, Dec. 8
Chef Charlie returns to the library for an educational and enjoyable holiday cooking demonstration.  Learn some great recipes and time-saving tips so you can spend more time with friends and family and less time in the kitchen.Â
Please call ahead to see if there is still space available. Â The demonstration begins at 7 p.m.Â
Friday, Dec. 9
West Islip Wines & Liquors is hosting a free wine tasting at 4 p.m. Patrons can enjoy Clos Du Bois wines (which are excellent, by the way) till 7 p.m. Just in time for happy hour. Â
