Tree Falls On Electrical Wires And Causes Brush Fire At St. John's: FD
A tree fell onto PSEG wires and caused a brush fire at St. John's University Monday morning, the West Sayville Fire Department says.
OAKEDALE, NY — A large fallen tree in Oakdale "took down power lines and started a little brush fire" early Monday morning at St. John's University Campus, the West Sayville Fire Department told Patch.
The fire was located at the entrance of St. John's Bourne Mansion and PSEG arrived at the scene to investigate, fire department officials said.
"At about 4:10 a.m., PSEG Long Island received a call from emergency responders about a fallen tree bringing down power lines on the campus in Oakdale that includes the Bourne Mansion. We dispatched crews to de-energize the circuit, and they have been working safely and as quickly as possible to make necessary repairs which are expected to be completed by mid-afternoon," PSEG told Patch. "The owner of the campus has reported no outages, and we have received no reports of other outages in the surrounding area."
