Two Good Samaritan Employees Receive Bernstein Award

Two Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center employees were recently presented with the hospital's Bernstein Award.

Chukwuma Egbuziem, RN, and Sr. Mary Anna Euring, OP, of West Islip, were chosen as the recipients of the prestigious award, named after the late Marvin Bernstein, MD, for the humanitarianism and compassion they infuse into their work.

Egbuziem, of Selden, is a registered nurse and working toward his Master’s degree in nursing informatics. A hospital employee since 2003, he recently initiated a program to recognize peers for continuing their education and exhibiting exceptional nursing skills.

Euring, a resident of West Islip, has been a chaplain at Good Samaritan since 1998 and is a former director of pastoral care. She is a certified certified grief counselor and developed the “Bridge to Hope” bereavement service in 2009 which offers care, support and education to help those facing a challenging time such as the loss of a baby or parent.

Employees are nominated for the award by their peers, and recipients are chosen by a committee of previous award winners.
