Weapons, Flavored Vapes Found In West Islip Bust: PD

Suffolk County police arrested a West Islip smoke shop employee and owner as part of "Operation Smoke Out" on Sunday, police say.

WEST ISLIP, NY — A West Islip smoke shop was busted Sunday for selling weapons and flavored vape products, according to Suffolk County Police.

Police arrested the owner of Vishma Smoke at 455 Montauk Highway in West Islip for possessing tasers and an employee for selling vape products to an underage person, police said.

The shop's owner, Warnakulasuriya Fernando, 50, of Bay Shore, was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a weapon after two tasers were found on display for sale at the store, police said. Employee Malik Gunes, 55, of Bay Shore, was charged with unlawfully dealing with a child and sale of flavored vape products, a public health law violation, police said.

The investigation was part of Suffolk Police Department's “Operation Smoke Out," which aims to crack down on underage and illegal vape sales.

On the same day, police also arrested an employee of Bay Smoke Shop in Bay Shore for unlawfully dealing with a child and for selling flavored vape products, a public health law violation, police said.

According to Suffolk PD, around 10,000 flavored vapes were seized by police between both stores.
