West Islip Boys Varsity Track Set For Division One Showdown
Lions working to qualify for States in June.
John Hassler captured second place in the Pole Vault, Chris Nohilly took fourth in the grueling 800, Matt Carlin earned fifth place in the Pole Vault and Fred Mattews sixth in the discus to start off the scoring for West Islip on Day One of the Divisional Championships.
Sprint standouts Dom Morgan and Colin O’Connor qualified for the finals in both the 100 and 400 meter hurdles and along with Nohilly and Sean Sepe sped to first place in the prelimary 4 X 400 event, earning them the top seed and best lane assignment in Wednesday’s exciting showdown match. The squad continues to shatter its own school record and is working toward qualifying for the State Meet in June. The 800 runners Chris Nohilly, Dan Morley, and Vin Melia all ran personal bests on Monday and Morley and Melia will team up with Joe Pinto and Mike Nowatarski aiming to lower their mark in the 4 X 800. Versatile Junior top performer, Chris Nohilly, will anchor the 4 X 400 and Vin Melia will compete in the 1600. Dom Morgan will compete in the long jump and twins Scott and Craig Nelson, will take on the most unusual and perhaps difficult event of all (besides the pentathalon) – the 3000m steeplechase! Go Lions!
