West Islip Gives Thanks

Residents and West Islip employees discuss what they're most thankful for this Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving, like few other holidays, allows folks to stop and think about the true spirit of the day.  Giving thanks is as important to most as carving the turkey and perfecting the crust on the pumpkin pie. Patch asked residents and West Islip employees around the town what they were thankful for this Thanksgiving.  Here are their responses.

I am so glad I have the opportunity to post a comment about what I am thankful for. First and foremost, I am thankful everyday for my three boys! But, I am also so thankful for living in such a wonderful community as West Islip. My friends, the schools (lunch ladies, to teachers, to principals), coaches (both school and town teams), have been a never-ending source of support, kindness, and generosity, to me and my boys. Without this great network of people, I don't know where me and my boys would be today. I hope many of you get to read this. I always wanted to thank each and every one of you for all you have done! I am so thankful for all of you...you know who you are. THANK YOU!! Happy Thanksgiving!!

Thanksgiving is clearly one of America’s most traditional holidays. From the turkey, to the stuffing to someone’s uncle or grandfather snoring on the couch after dinner, many of our traditions overlap. But for my family, one of our traditions happens Thanksgiving Eve. As we prep the house for Thursday, our dinner Wednesday night consists of hero sandwiches from Village Delicatessen in Brightwaters. Pastrami for my wife, Phyllis, and my brother-in-law Jerry; roast beef for me, and…yes…turkey for the kids.  We’ve done it for more than a decade and it’s a simple reminder each year that the holiday season is here. Happy Thanksgiving to all!!

I am thankful for all the wonderful people I have met this year and
for all their efforts of support during this year's campaign season.  I am thankful that I can pay it forward at every chance and thankful that someone else can benefit from another's kind act.  I am thankful that I have the strength and tolerance to grow and prosper with my beloved family.
