West Islip Alumnus Selected in MLB Draft

Pat Cantwell chosen by the Texas Rangers Tuesday.

West Islip High School alumnus Pat Cantwell was selected in the third round of the 2012 Major League Baseball draft Tuesday.

Cantwell, hot off the heels of a victory in the Coral Gables Regional with Stony Brook University's Seawolves, was chosen by the Texas Rangers.

Last year, the catcher was by the Baltimore Orioles.

Stony Brook Coach Matt Senk told Newsday Cantwell is "easily one of the best baseball players I've ever coached. His makeup is off the charts, he has skills everywhere." He currently hits a batting average of .312.

The Seawolves face off against Louisiana State University on Friday in the first of three for the Super Regional.
