L Train service was shut down completely between boroughs.

UPDATE: Police sources told the New York Post that the man killed at the 3rd Avenue station Wednesday was “cut in half” by an incoming L Train. It’s reportedly still unclear whether he fell or jumped. The man has yet to be identified, according to the Post, “because his body was apparently so badly mangled.”

MANHATTAN, NY — L Train service was halted completely between Brooklyn and Manhattan after a man was fatally hit by a train at the 3rd Avenue station Wednesday afternoon, according to various city agencies.
No L Trains were running between the Bedford Avenue stop in Williamsburg and the 8th Avenue stop in Manhattan for the hour following the tragic incident at 3rd, the MTA said.
The man was hit around 11:45 a.m., a spokesman for the Fire Department of New York (FDNY) told Patch. Firefighters found him dead as soon as they arrived.
NYPD investigators were still at the scene nearly an hour later, police said.
As of 12:45 p.m, L Trains were bypassing 3rd Avenue in both directions. Service updates available here.
