McCarren Park In Dire Need Of Leaf Rakers
Local North Brooklyn organizations are putting on a leaf raking event Saturday with free hot chocolate and donuts — and cardio.

WILLIAMSBURG-GREENPOINT, BROOKLYN — Are you looking for something charitable to do with yourself after a week that's been politically draining? McCarren Park's "inaugural leaf raking" event is taking place this weekend, and the weather is supposed to be mostly sunny skies and overcast in the afternoon. Open Space Alliance for North Brooklyn is putting on the raking event with Good.Clean.Fun, a local organization that helps people get physical exercise while cleaning McCarren Park.
The raking fest takes place on Saturday, Jan. 28 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and tools and gloves will be provided. There will also be hot chocolate, donuts and apples. Don't forget the free calorie loss.
McCarren Park builds up a thick layer of leaves over the fall and winter that gets in the way of people playing in the park and covers up dog poop that owners would otherwise be accountable for. If left unmoved for long enough, leaves can get so heavy that they can kill or damage grass and plants in the park, according to Open Space Alliance.
