UPDATE: An Apple Store employee tells DNAinfo that the man yelled, ”I just want an iPhone!” as he swung his sword. And another witness says that once the man came outside, “he put the sword to the back of his neck and just held it there.”

A man pulled out a Samurai sword in the glass stairwell of Manhattan’s 5th Avenue Apple Store on Friday afternoon and began swinging it toward customers and Apple employees, according to photo and video footage from the scene. (Included below.)

The 30-year-old man “entered the store with a Samurai sword and displayed the Samurai sword” just before 4 p.m., an NYPD spokesman told Patch.

The man was immediately tackled by store security and detained by the NYPD, the spokesman said — then transported nearby Bellevue Hospital for “evaluation.”

No one was injured in the incident, including the sword-bearer, police said. No arrests were made.

The Apple Store was reportedly evacuated during the takedown.
