9/11 Remembrance Memorials in Brooklyn

Prospect Park and the Botanic Gardens are two spots paying tribute nearby.

A number of 9/11 remembrance monuments are nearby to pay tribute to those fallen on the 11th anniversary of this tragic event. All are open to the public.

  • September 11 Memorial Liberty Oaks at the : The Liberty Oaks Memorial is a line of oak trees, along the eastern and western edges of the Cherry Tree Esplanade. A dedicated plaque is at the southwest end of the Esplanade.
  • 9/11 Memorial Grove in : A small area in the northern part of the Long Meadow, the Prospect Park Alliance in conjunction with the USDA Forest Service Living Memorials Project created this memorial.
  • The Tribute in Light: According to the 9/11 Memorial Museum, the Tribute in Light will return for one night as a tribute to all those who were lost on 9/11. Located at West and Morris Streets in lower Manhattan but visible from various Brooklyn vantage points, the lights will begin at sunset (7:11 pm) on Sept. 11 and fade away at dawn on Sept. 12 (6:34am). There will be no formal program. 

Recommended locations to observe the Tribute in Light include Red Hook, Columbia Waterfront, Brooklyn Bridge Park, Brooklyn Bridge Pedestrian Walkway, Brooklyn Heights Promenade, Fulton Ferry State Park and Fort Greene Park.

The Memorial Museum is also live streaming on its website the commemoration ceremony at the 9/11 Memorial, starting at 8:30 a.m.
