These 'Hoods are Made for Walkin', Website Says

Do we need a number to tell us that Kensington and Windsor Terrace are both exceptionally walkable? Probably not, but thanks to the good folks at a website called Walk Score, we've got one anyway.

The site—which calculates an area's "walkability" based on proximity to local amenities—ranked a total of 256 New York City neighborhoods, assigning each a score on a scale from 1 to 100. 

Kensington did extremely well in the site's estimation, garnering a high enough score—90 out of 100—to qualify it as a "walker's paradise" and the 63rd most walkable locale in the city. 

Windsor Terrace didn't fare too badly itself, scoring an 87 out of 100 and securing its spot as the city's 92nd most pedestrian-friendly neighborhood.

Though neither neighborhood did as well as nearby Carroll Gardens or Park Slope (each scored a 96), both Kensington and Windsor Terrace beat out neighboring Ditmas Park (85) and roughly tied with Borough Park (90) and Midwood (87). 

What neighborhood had the dubious honor of ranking dead last? At No. 256 and with a Walk Score of just five, Rikers Island is officially the least walkable place in New York City. The website cites the island's reliance on cars, but we're pretty sure that's not the only reason people rarely opt for a pleasant stroll around the jail's notorious grounds.
