Tour the World (for Free!) at Kensington's Albemarle Playground

Salsa, steel drum, Aztec ceremonial dances, art from Bangladesh — what else could you ask for on a September Saturday?

KENSINGTON, BROOKLYN — A free, family-friendly multi-cultural festival is coming to Albemarle Playground on Saturday, Sep. 17, featuring singing, dancing and art from around the world.

The work of those behind The Singing Winds, a storytelling series hosted by P.S. 230, The Hummingbird Festival will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

At 11 a.m., visitors can enjoy a musical performance by the Higher Levin Steel Band, made up of students and alumni of the Meyer Levin School for the Performing Arts in Flatbush.

At the same time, crafting, games and mask-making will be open to all.

Then, starting at 12 p.m., a variety of cultural acts will take the stage. Cetiliztli Nauhcampa, composed of members from throughout the Americas, will perform ceremonial Aztec dances. There will also be salsa and merengue by Latin Dance Fever, a performance from the Bangladesh Institute of Performing Arts, and more.

The event is being supported by the New York City Parks Department, the Citizens Committee for New York City, and the Brooklyn Arts Council.
