WINDSOR TERRACE, BROOKLYN — The neighborhood officers assigned to Windsor Terrace and South Slope will be hosting their next public meeting on Sep. 17.

The meeting will take place on at 10:30 a.m. at M.S. 88, located at 544 7th Ave.

Windsor Terrace and South Slope are part of the NYPD's 72nd Precinct, which uses the force's new community policing model. The precinct is divided up into four sections, A through D. Two officers, known as Neighborhood Coordination Officers, or NCOs, are devoted full-time to each section.

  • Danny McGrath: 917-853-2601, daniel.mcgrath@nypd.org

McGrath and Montes held their last public meeting in late July, where they reported that crime was low in Sector A.

Public meetings like the one scheduled for Sep. 17 are a chance for neighbors to ask questions about local policing tactics and make suggestions to the NCOs.

McGrath and Montes have also encouraged area residents to reach out to them with tips or concerns using the phone numbers and email addresses listed above.

Officer McGrath said Friday that he and Officer Montes will distribute flyers announcing future Sector A meetings, and will tweet out information using the precinct's official Twitter account.

Through Aug. 28, major crimes throughout the 72nd Precinct were collectively up about 7.7 percent compared to the same time period last year. The NCOs assigned to central Sunset Park (sector C) recently reported a drop in crime in that area over recent months. However, the NCOs for Sector D, in southeastern Sunset Park, said that both robberies and assaults have recently climbed in their area.

The next community council meeting for the 72nd Precinct — a public meeting where the entire precinct is discussed — will be hosted on Sep. 13 at the Mariam-Hein Center, located at 4520 4th Ave.
